Searching memories...

Somewhere on the internet, I found 40 questions to ask yourself at the end of each year. So here I am, rewinding 2025 — one question at a time.

1. What did you do this year that you’d never done before?

Volunteered at Google DevFest. I would have never done it alone, but I made a decision, met new people, and had a wonderful time. Seems it’s not that hard to be out. 🎉

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions?

No. I don’t believe in taking one and dropping it. I strongly believe every turning point comes at different times and places. Forcing life on a new year is not recommended.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

No.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Yes. (Prefer not to discuss.)

5. What cities/states/countries did you visit?

Dubai, for work. One country at my best. 🇦🇪

6. What would you like to have next year that you lacked this year?

More courage, peace of mind, planning, and happiness.

7. What date(s) from this year will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

April 20. Got my job after a very long time. Something amazing — being in a new place and culture.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

I’m a laid-back person. This year, my biggest achievement was that I started to think better. I have clarity. I’m choosing peace and happiness over everything in my life — that feels like a big achievement. ✨

9. What was your biggest failure?

My biggest failure is that I did not stand up for myself — not courageous or bold enough to stand up for my peace and happiness. I have a lot of complaints from myself to myself. 😅

10. What other hardships did you face?

Being in a new place, adapting to a new culture personally and professionally, took a toll on my mind and heart. Everything new was really hard for me as an introvert — new people, new country, new place, new smile, new fear.

11. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Not much, but here and there. Nothing serious.

12. What was the best thing you bought?

AI tool subscriptions. The best, bestest thing I have ever got. I feel like a superhero now. 🦸

13. Whose behavior merited celebration?

I’m not mature enough to gauge something like this yet.

14. Whose behavior made you appalled?

Same — I’m not mature enough to judge.

15. Where did most of your money go?

Investments, getting things I wished to get as my 10, 20, 30-year-old self. 😂 Even though I’m an adult, I’m planning a lot with my money. Still learning.

16. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

AI tool subscriptions. I’m really really really really really excited about using them daily. I’m just on cloud nine. ☁️

17. What song will always remind you of this year?

“Ularal” from Kudumbasthanm, sung by Ravi G. 🎵 Hear the song →

18. Compared to this time last year, are you: happier or sadder? Richer or poorer? Healthier or unhealthier?

Compared to last year, I feel free. Like freedom of a bird. Mentally, I’m healthier, marching toward happiness and peace. I’m richer in understanding, clarity, peace of mind, happiness, and life — and money too, which has been a great tool that led me here. 🕊️

19. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Physical activity and movement.

20. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Sleeping. This year, I wasted most of my time sleeping. I slept a lot. 😴

21. How are you spending the holidays?

Mostly occupied or doing something on my laptop. 💻

22. Did you fall in love this year?

Yes, I fell in love with myself after a long breakup. 💕

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

A lot of people, but that’s subjective. It might just change anytime, or most probably I would forget all of them.

24. What was your favorite show?

Not much of a show watcher.

25. What was the best book you read?

Thinking, Fast and Slow.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery of the year?

I love songs. Every song I listened to was great. The albums from Dude, F1, and Madarasi were great.

27. What was your favorite film?

Kudumbasthanm. I’ve watched it 1, 5, 10, like infinite times. ♾️ Watch the trailer →

28. What was your favorite meal?

Paruppu sadam (lentil rice) and aavakai oorugai (mango pickle). 🍚

29. What did you want and get?

A job.

30. What did you want and not get?

Nothing really. Mostly had everything I wished for this year.

31. What did you do on your birthday?

Went to the temple, had a good, nice day at home. 🎂

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

My health. It was really bad this year. I had to work a lot on that — the lack of food and movement.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion this year?

Worst fashion sense of a duck. White shirt, orange pants. 🦆

34. What kept you sane?

Yesterday, today, tomorrow, and till my life ends — movies. I watch them every day. No doubt. My home, my heart, my mind — everything is who I am because of movies. Learning happiness and sadness. It’s always movies. 🎬

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you admire the most?

I really admire Vijay, Tamil actor turned politician. Just my thought, though. It’s a great move from where he is.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

I’m not much of a politically-following person. My views are mostly from the public side. Maybe I haven’t seen the rabbit hole.

37. Who did you miss?

To be honest, I missed everyone. My old office, college, friends, and family. It’s been a rollercoaster year. 🎢

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Afroz. One of the kindest, softest, calmest, most energetic people I have ever seen. I feel blessed to have such a person in my life. 🙏

39. What valuable life lesson did you learn this year?

To be more humble, patient, and set boundaries.

40. What is a quote that sums up your year?

“Human-being-Human” sums up my year — ups and downs. We are human beings, understood, but we have to be humane. The most important part of my life.
